Remembering Veteran’s Day

I do not have any close family who served in the United States military. I have a handful of friends who are serving, or who have served, but that is the extent of my relationship with this important day. I do know how involved my friends have been during their service in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, and I can see how much of a toll their important service has taken upon them and their families.

And so, even though I have no close personal ties, I still take a moment every time this year to thank the veterans who have served for our country. They have laid their lives and livelihoods on the line to protect what the United States stands for.

To those men and women who I do and don’t know, thank you for your service.

If you have a spare moment, I ask that you jot down a memory of a loved one who has served in a branch of our armed forces. Perhaps one future Veteran’s Day you’ll find this note, and be grateful that you took a few minutes to recall it.
